Family History Certificates

If you're applying for a certificate of birth, death or marriage which took place before 1910, please note we wont take any payment for this until we have located the correct entry. This could take us between 4-6 weeks. When you apply for a certificate, it would be helpful if in addition to a year, quarter and Registration District; you could also supply any additional information that would enable us to locate the correct registration.

Unfortunately, we are unable to conduct a general search of our indexes, as manual searches are time-consuming, and due to the number of applications received, the minimum amount of information we require, is the year and the quarter in which a particular event was registered.

Births: if you know either of the parent's names or mothers maiden name.

Deaths: if you know the deceased's occupation; age at death, area where they lived or husband's or wife's name (as one of these may have been the informant).

Marriages: it would be helpful to have both parties' names, if this information is not available, then their occupation; father's name or area that they lived in, prior to the marriage taking place.

Please ensure that you include a contact telephone number with your application, so that we can discuss any findings/queries with you.

The Nottingham Register Office holds records for the Nottingham City Registration District from 1837 (for earlier registrations you will need to contact the Nottinghamshire Archives to find Parish registrations).

At Nottingham, we also hold some registrations from the old Basford Registration District from 1837 until 30.06.1899. Basford, Erewash, Amber Valley, Mansfield or Rushcliffe Register Offices could also potentially hold Basford District Registrations.
