Proposed admission arrangements for the 2020/21 school year
The Local Authority is consulting on a proposal to change the 2020/21 admission arrangements for community schools in Nottingham City from those approved for the 2019/20 school year.
These arrangements are for pupils who will be starting school for the first time in the 2020 autumn term, or changing from one school to another between September 2020 and July 2021.
Community schools in Nottingham are the ones run by Nottingham City Council. This means that the Council is responsible for offering or refusing places at these schools.
The consultation period on these admission arrangements runs from 5 November to 21 December 2018 inclusive.
The only changes to the arrangements from those determined for the 2019/20 school year are to amend:
- oversubscription criteria 2 and 4 to give clarity as to when a child is considered to have a sibling at the school concerned. The criteria is set out in appendix 2
- the definition of siblings to include a stepbrother or stepsister where two children are related by a parent’s civil partnership as well as by a parent’s marriage. The definition is set out in appendix 2
No further changes to the arrangements are proposed.

Consultation on proposed admission arrangements for the 2020/21 school year academies
There are other schools in Nottingham responsible for making their own admission arrangements. For the academies listed below, the governing body is the admissions authority and it must consult on its admission arrangements unless it is exempt from consulting in accordance with paragraph 1.42 of the School Admissions Code which states that where the admission arrangements have not changed from the previous year there is no requirement to consult, subject to the requirement that admission authorities must consult on their admission arrangements at least once every 7 years, even if there have been no changes during that period.
