Greener HousiNG

We are working with residents across Nottingham on a range of schemes to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, creating healthy, comfortable places for people to live in the city. This work is helping residents save money on energy bills, reduce their carbon footprint, and improve their health outcomes.

Through Nottingham City Council’s Greener HousiNG schemes, we have made improvements to both socially and privately owned homes. These upgrades include insulation, solar panels, and air source heat pumps.

This work supports the UK's commitment to become net zero by 2050 alongside Nottingham’s ambitions to become the UK’s first Carbon Neutral City by 2028.

Heating Pump Funding

Home Upgrade Grant 2 (HUG2)

What is a Home Upgrade Grant?

The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) is a government-funded programme that provides energy efficiency upgrades and low-carbon heating to households across England. It is open to properties that are not connected to the gas grid (i.e. via a gas boiler in your home).

The aim is to raise the energy efficiency of homes that are hard to keep warm. This is achieved by delivering a range of fully funded energy-saving upgrades covering free home insulation and/or free low-carbon heating measures.

These measures aim to make your home more comfortable, helping to lower your carbon emissions while reducing your energy bills in the long term.

What energy-saving upgrades could I receive?

The energy-saving upgrades available (often referred to as ‘measures’) range from loft insulation, external wall insulation, solar PV panels and air source heat pumps.

Please be aware that the measures vary in availability and will depend on what is suitable for your property.

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Have an annual household income below £31,000 (gross) or are in receipt of certain benefits
  • Do not use mains gas as a form of heating
  • Have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) between D and G

Please note that only households who meet the scheme criteria will be eligible for a grant and you may be asked for proof of income to ensure eligibility criteria is met.
