The national pay award has now been agreed for Local Government Services (‘Green Book’).

What is the pay award?

  • A pay increase of £1,925 for all NJC pay points 2–43 (grades B to J)
  • A pay increase of 3.88% on locally determined pay points (grade K)
  • An increase to allowances (standby duty £32.81 per session and sleep in duty £40.76)

Please note, the pay award for Soulbury employees has not yet been agreed.

When will I receive the increase in pay?

The new salary rates will be paid to you in your December 2023 salary payment, alongside backdated payment from the 1 April 2023.

The new pay rates can be found on the Nottingham City Council intranet. If you can not access the intranet - please ask your manager for a copy.

Other points for nothing:

LGPS Pension Contributions

Some colleagues will see a change to their Local Government Pensions Scheme pension contribution banding if their new salary level takes them into the next banding.  More information about LGPS pension banding can be found here, on the LGPS web site.

Market Supplements

If you are in receipt of a market supplement you may not see an increase in your salary if the market supplement ceiling value exceeds the value of the pay award. This is because market supplements are fixed amounts based on market rates.

Additional Payments and Allowances

If you were in receipt of an additional payment or any other allowance during this period, an adjustment will be made, and any backdated payment will be paid to you in your January 2024 salary payment.

Income Related Benefits

Payment of back pay cannot be staggered over a period of months and must be paid as soon as practicable after a pay deal is reached. As Universal Credit is  specific to an individual we are unable to provide any advice on this. Employees affected by this issue should speak to their Universal Credit Work Coach via their online account or call the Universal Credit Helpline on 0800 328 5644.

Please speak to your line manager in the first instance if you have any queries about this message.
