Nottingham City Council encourages applicants to submit planning applications online, through the Planning Portal. Where an application is submitted online, the Planning Portal will transfer the application details directly into the Council's computer system. The online forms also help you determine the type of consent required. This significantly reduces the risk of an application being submitted on the incorrect form and therefore increases the chances of a valid application being submitted first time. This benefits both the applicant and council staff who process the application, ultimately resulting in a faster decision.

Information needed when making an Application for Planning Permission
All planning applications, whether submitted on line or in paper, need to be accompanied by a minimum level of information in order to be considered. The requirements vary depending upon the location, scale and type of development being proposed, and are designed to ensure that applications can be processed as efficiently as possible. Every application should be accompanied by an appropriate validation checklist, which can be downloaded by clicking on the links to the right of this page.

Design and Access Statements
Most planning applications and applications for Listed Building Consent must be accompanied by a Design and Access Statement. Click here for more information about Design and Access Statements. Although a Design and Access Statement can be written from scratch, the City Council has produced two forms which can be used to guide the preparation of statements for many straightforward developments.
