History of Nottingham Riviera

Since the very first 'beach' in 1991, the event has grown from strength to strength and has become a family favourite on the events calendar.

Nottingham welcomed its first 'beach' in 1991, when the city linked up with Skegness to create an urban seaside resort with sand, splash pools and free entertainment for local citizens. The first grand opening included cans of 'sea air' being opened and let out to create the perfect seaside atmosphere.  Since then, Nottingham has hosted eight Riviera's, each more impressive than the last. Over the years, the event has offered free family entertainment for millions of people right in the heart of the city and has helped to promote Nottingham as a centre of innovation.

Last year's beach was a resounding success, with hundreds of thousands of visitors coming from all over the UK to visit England's largest inland beach. The event also attracted international visitors from over 60 cities and gave Nottingham press and media attention from all over the world, with coverage reaching as far as Australia and India.
