Home Information for Residents Births, Deaths, Marriages Changes to services due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Update as of 21 October 2020

Birth Registrations

You may book an appointment online or over the phone to register your baby- although we have doubled the number of appointments offered but there is still a considerable wait for a slot while we work through the backlog so please bear with us. These will take place by prior appointment only at Loxley House, Station Street and you will be sent new guidelines to follow which include wearing of face coverings and bringing your own black pen to sign. The legal requirement to register your baby within 42 days is temporarily suspended. Please bring a bank card to pay for your certificates- we do not accept cash and currently cannot take payment using a mobile phone.

Ceremonies

Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies are taking place at The Council House and Approved Venues in Nottingham. Ceremonies are restricted to the legal minimum words and the maximum number allowed at the ceremony is the couple plus 13 guests. All guests (unless exempt) must wear a face covering whilst in the building at all times. Brides, Grooms or Civil Partners do not need to wear a face covering, but we prefer that, as a precaution, they wear them until the ceremony begins. We are able to take new bookings for 2021 although at this time we do not know if or when ceremonies will return to as they were pre-COVID.

Notices of Marriage or Civil Partnership

We are booking notices' appointments for couples who have their ceremonies booked within the next 4 months only. If your ceremony is in 2021 we request that you contact us around 2 months before your wedding date to book an appointment- payment is taken in advance. The appointment will be at Loxley House and there will be guidelines to follow such as wearing face coverings.

From 1st April 2020 registrations for deaths moved to a telephone basis. Your doctor or hospital will send the medical certificate electronically to the registration service, and we will contact you to make a telephone appointment, complete the registration and issue the green form for burial or cremation electronically. We will also supply you with a 'Tell Us Once' reference number to enable you to access this service.  After the registration is completed you will be advised to apply for Death certificates using our online ordering service and these will be posted to you.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your citizenship ceremony, wedding, civil partnership or registering a birth, please email office.register@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or contact us on 0115 8415554

These changes will remain in place until Government restrictions are lifted.
