Apply for a place in Year 7 at a secondary school

If your child lives in Nottingham city and your child was born between 1st September 2008 and 31st August 2009, they are due to transfer to secondary school in September 2020 and you will need to apply for a secondary school place.

If your child was not born between these dates and you wish to apply for a secondary school place, you should use the online form on the New to the Area or Wishing to Change Schools' page.

How to apply

The closing date for applications was Thursday 31st October 2019. Applying after the deadline may reduce your chances of getting a place at your preferred school, particularly if it is popular.

Please contact the School Admissions Team on 0115 841 5568 or email to request an application form.

Your Application

You can no longer use the Capita system to apply online, but you can still view any application you made prior to the closing date. Basic details on the application process, along with things you should consider can be found in summary leaflet below.

National Offer Day

Applications received by 31st October 2019

The national offer day for secondary applications is 2nd March 2020.

If you applied online, you will receive an email on the 2nd March notifying you of the outcome of your application (unless you indicated on your application you did not want to receive the decision by email). A decision letter will be posted to those applicants who applied using a paper application form on Monday 2nd March 2020 by second class post. Letters should be received by 4th or 5th March.

Please do not telephone or visit the School Admissions Team for your decision as these will not be given verbally, regardless of the circumstances; you must wait for your email or letter to arrive. We will only reprint decision letters not received by Friday 6th March 2020, so if you have not received your letter, do not contact us for another copy until after 6th March.

Our telephones are extremely busy after national offer day so please be patient if you are trying to contact us.

You will be able to accept your offer by:

Please do not use more than one of these options as it is unnecessary and reduces the time our staff are available to provide help to parents and carers.

You are strongly advised not to decline the place offered to your child unless they have been offered a place at an alternative school. If you do not accept the place offered, your child may not have a school place for September, leaving you liable to prosecution by the Educational Welfare Service. You can accept the place offered and decline it at a later date if your child is offered a place at an alternative school from the waiting list or as a result of any successful appeal or late application you may make.

If your child has been refused a school place, you can appeal to an independent appeal panel. You have 20 school days from the date of your decision letter or email to lodge an appeal (the deadline for applications made by the closing date of 31st October 2019 is Friday 27th March 2020). Contact details of where to appeal are shown in the table on our School Admissions Appeals document

Waiting Lists

If you have not been offered your first preference school this is because you have been refused a place as determined by the over-subscription criteria or ability of a selected school. In these circumstances, your child will be placed on a waiting list for schools ranked higher than the school you have been offered (until the end of the Autumn Term 2020). If you would like your child to be placed on a waiting list for schools ranked lower than your school offered then you must email or write to the School Admissions Team to request this.

Applications received after 31st October 2019

If you applied after the closing date of 31st October 2019, you will receive a decision on your application from May 2020 onwards. We will not be able to make a decision on your application before this date.
