Blast off on a Space Chase!

For all you super speedy kids who've read 6 books already and got your certificate, please ask a parent or carer to fill in our quick online survey :) 

Everyone else prepare for lift off as we travel across the galaxy on a very special reading mission: it’s the Summer Reading Challenge 2019!

Help super space family, the Rockets, as they set off on an exciting mission to track down books stolen by these mischievous aliens...

                          

Read 6 library books to get special stickers, some with mysterious smells. By adding these stickers to your collectable mission folders, you will help the Rockets solve clues, dodge asteroids and discover the missing books, having lots of fun and adventures along the way!

Finish the challenge for special rewards, a certificate and medal.

BONUS- If you read more than 6 books we'll put your name in to a special prize draw!

How can I take part?

Taking part in the Challenge is super simple 

  1. Pop into your local library and sign up
  2. Get your Space Chase mission folder to get you started
  3. Read six library books over the whole holidays to collect special stickers to add to your folder
  4. Collect all the stickers to find the aliens, save the missing books and complete the Challenge

You'll get special rewards when you finish each book, plus there’s a certificate and medal for finishing the whole Challenge. Along the way there'll also be lots of cosmic performances, crafts and activities at your local library.

BONUS- If you read more than 6 books we'll put your name in to a special prize draw!

Space Chase  starts on 13 July and runs until 7 September with special medal ceremonies mid-September.

What if I'm not a member of my library? Go to the library they'll help you join if you don’t already have a library card then sign you up to take part in the Challenge.

Do I have to read books about space? You can read anything you like -  picture books, fact books, comics or stories by your favourite authors - as long as they are borrowed from the library they count!

StoryParks... places to read and enjoy together all summer

A SUMMER OF IMAGINATION

Explore five of your favourite Nottingham parks this summer and find magical story dens full of books, crafts, trails and more.

In partnership with the good folks at The Nottingham Building Society, Nottingham City Libraries and Parks staff along with local artists and performers will be running a packed programme of storytelling, nature, music and movement sessions too…all for FREE!

We are super excited to be hosting our special outdoor sessions for StoryParks over the summer with a library session each day over 5 parks.

There will be lots of activities for children and families to enjoy such as stories, games, number trails, treasure hunts, colouring, wordsearches and much more!

 

Join us on:

Mondays at The Forest Recreation Ground, 1pm - 3pm

Tuesdays at Vernon Park, 10.30am - 12.30pm

Wednesdays at Highfields Park, 11am - 1pm

Thursday at Wollaton Park, 11am - 1pm

Fridays at Woodthorpe Grange Park, 1pm - 3pm

Storyparks will take place from Monday 29 July through to Saturday 31 August 2019.

Storyparks dens will be available during park opening times, with volunteers and staff available on site 10am-3pm Monday-Friday with lots of other activities. At weekends, you can still drop by the dens to access books and self-led activities for children and families to enjoy.
