Grant scheme now up and running!
If you are the owner or tenant of a historic building on Carrington Street or Station Street (see map for programme boundary), then you could be eligible for a grant of up to 67% of the costs of building repair or other townscape heritage works, such as the reinstatement of a traditional shop-front. A Heritage Lottery funded grant scheme for Nottingham's Southern Gateway
We have been awarded £682,400 of Heritage Lottery Funding for a Townscape Heritage scheme in the Carrington Street area. The scheme will involve the whole community and put heritage and conservation at the heart of the regeneration of buildings on Carrington Street, Arkwright Street and Station Street.
This is part of our wider ambition to make the most of the city's heritage and to improve the southern side of the city centre, transforming it into a gateway fit to welcome business visitors, tourists and investors to our great city.
Our Townscape Heritage scheme will run from 2016 to March 2021.
The project will provide a variety of community activities including:
- Heritage walks and self-guided tours using our Townscape app, and downloadable information sheets
- 'Research your local history' training and Memory Lane Days
- Training in traditional conservation skills for contractors and building professionals
- A Family Fun Day, school discovery days for local primary school classes and a photography competition to engage with young people
- Learn how to 'maintain your own old building' days for individual property owners
Benefits for Building Owners
Once up and running the scheme will provide grants for up to 80% of the cost of the conservation project by application and assessment.
Grants will be awarded based on a number of criteria. Works which will be eligible for grants include: Works which might be eligible for grants include:
- Repairs to the fabric of a building, such as masonry repairs, re-pointing and roof repairs
- Replacement of lost architectural features, such as traditional windows or shop fronts based on historical precedent
Key assessment criteria may include:
- Condition of the property
- Prominence and visibility of the improvements
- Potential to be a catalyst for change or which sets an example for others
- Value for money / size of grant request / owner's contribution
- The future use and sustainability of the building
- Quality of the proposals; does the scheme involve use of appropriate materials and techniques, in line with national conservation standards?
