An Introduction to Safeguarding Children

Course Length: 2 hours 15 minutes

Course Leader: Karen Shead - Safeguarding Trainer

Audience: PVI Day Nurseries, Preschool Practitioners and Childminders who are new to their role and have NO responsibility for managing staff or making referrals. 

Course Overview: This course will give new and trainee practitioners a thorough awareness of safeguarding children as well as the local context, policies and procedures of Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Partnership (NCSCP).

Course Aims: By the end of the course participants will:

  • Have an understanding of the EYFS Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements
  • Have an understanding of child protection law and legislation
  • Define child abuse and recognise potential indicators
  • Be aware of how referrals are made to other agencies
  • Have an awareness of how to keep yourself safe when working with children

If practitioners have attended a Safeguarding Children course within the past three years they should book onto the Refresher Training.

Pre-course Requisites: Delegates are required to familiarise themselves with the Safeguarding and Promoting Childrens Welfare Requirements prior to attendance.

Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements are part of the Early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Achieving your certificate: After the course you will be sent a case study to complete.  Once the case study is returned, your certificate will then be issued.
