New to SENCO
Course Length: 2 hours
Course Leaders: EYFS SEND Workers - Sam Caig and Mel Foulston
Audience: PVCI Practitioners (Day Nurseries, Preschools and Childminders) who are looking to take on the role of SENCO in their setting or are taking on a support role to the current SENCO.
Course Overview: This course will provide practitioners with key points and practical ideas to help them in the SENCO role. This will include investigating how the SENCO role is delivered across the city, discussions around early identification of children with additional needs and exploring the Graduated Response.
Aims:
- Understand your role and responsibilities as a SENCO and/or SENCO Support

Explore the role of other professionals and the importance of working with parents

Gain information of current SEND legislation including the SENDCOP2015

Explore the Local Offer and Identify what is universal and what is SEND provision
Before attending this course practitioners are required to have an overview of The Statutory Guidance, Special Educational Needs Disability Code of Practice 0 – 25 years relating to Early Years providers (section 5 page 78).
On completion of this course and the Being a SENCO course practitioners will receive a UK CPD Certificate.
It is recommended that all SENCOs join the SENCO Network to keep updated on current practices.
