SEND Awareness
Course Length: 2 hours
Course Leaders: EYFS SEND Workers Sam Caig and Mel Foulston
Audience: PVI Practitioners (Day Nurseries, Preschools and Childminders) who do not currently have a SENCO Role, but would like to increase their knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Course Overview: Data gathered over a number of years highlighted that around 90% of Early Years SEND funding applications were for children having the following four areas of SEND: Autism, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Sensory impairments (hearing and vision). This information prompted the Early Years team to develop an awareness course for all practitioners.
Supporting practitioners who do not have a SENCO role, this course aims to increase participant’s knowledge and understanding of the four areas mentioned above. Exploring some practical strategies and ideas will help practitioners to ensure inclusion linked to the SEND Code of Practice. It will also provide an insight into how all practitioners can support parents of children with SEND.
Aims:
Learn more about
- SEND and the behaviours of children with Autism
- The facts about Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy or how sensory impairments affect learning
- How the setting SENCO can be supported
