Home Information for Residents Education and Schools School Admissions Apply for a Reception Year Place at Infant or Primary School or a Year 3 Place

Coronavirus Update | Please be aware that due to the current outbreak of COVID-19, the School Admissions Team are currently working remotely and so have limited resources. We are working to the best of our abilities to continuously provide a good level of service, however we have a reduced telephone service, operating from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm Monday to Wednesday only. Our reception service will not be available for the foreseeable future. We would appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and we recognise that our service is of high importance to you. We are also contactable via email and if your email requires a response, we will reply as soon as we can.

Applying for schools

If your child lives in Nottingham City and was born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017, you need to apply for an infant/primary school place for September 2021.

Children who were born between 01 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 and are attending an infant school in year 2 will transfer to a junior school in September 2021. Children in year 2 at a primary school do not need to change school and will stay at that primary school until year 6 and this information does not apply.

National Offer Day

Applications received before 15 January 2021

The national offer day for primary school applications is 16 April 2021.

If you applied online, you will receive an email on 16 April 2021 notifying you of the outcome of your application (unless you indicated on your application you do not want to receive the decision by email). A decision letter will also be posted to applicants who applied using a paper application form, on 16 April 2021 by second class post. Letters should be received by 19 or 20 April.

Please do not telephone the School Admissions Team for your decision as these will not be given verbally, regardless of the circumstances; you must wait for your email or letter to arrive. We will only reprint decision letters not received by 23 April 2021, so if you have not received your letter do not contact us for another copy until after 23 April.

Our telephones are extremely busy after national offer day, so please be patient if you are trying to contact us.

You will be able to accept your offer by:

Please do not use more than one of these options as it is unnecessary and reduces the time our staff are available to provide help to parents and carers.

Applications received after 15 January 2021

If you applied after the closing date of 15 January 2021, you will receive a decision on your application from the end of May onwards.  We will not be able to make a decision on your application prior to this date.

How do I apply?

The closing date for applications was Friday 15 January 2021.  Applying after the deadline may reduce your chances of getting a place at your preferred school, particularly if it is popular.

Please contact the School Admissions Team at schooladmissions@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or on Telephone 0115 841 5668 to request an application form.

Basic details on the application process, along with things you should consider can be found in the summary leaflet below.
