Any allegation or concern regarding the conduct or behaviour of an individual working with children or young people must be referred to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) within 24 hours. This ensures appropriate oversight of safeguarding matters, potential criminal investigations, and any required internal disciplinary processes.
When to refer to LADO
Any allegation/concern a member has:
· Behaved in a manner that has harmed, or may have harmed, a child
· Potentially committed a criminal offence against, or related to, a child
· Acted in a way that suggests they are unsuitable to work with children
· Behaved in a way that indicates they may pose a risk to children in the future
What to do
- Do not investigate
- Submit a referral to LADO
- Follow LADO advice
- Report to OFSTED
Registered childminders, nannies, nurseries and other daycare providers must report significant events within 14 days. Via Report a serious childcare incident - GOV.UK.
