Have your say on proposed changes to Council Tax Support |

Nottingham City Council is consulting on future options for its Council Tax Support scheme which helps households on low incomes with their Council Tax bill.

Specialist support to people with sight loss

The Adult Sensory Team provides specialist support to people with sight loss. We employ Vision Rehabilitation Specialists who understand the difficulties experienced by living with sight loss. We can provide interpreters for all languages including BSL.

What is Rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is the process of restoring skills, confidence or learning new ways of completing day to day activities to help maximise your independence. It is designed to support you with the following:

  • Everyday living tasks
  • Orientation / Mobility
  • Communication

Who can get support?

Any adult living within Nottingham City with a non-correctable visual impairment can be referred to us, you do not have to be registered sight impaired or severely sight impaired. If your sight is affecting your ability to complete tasks, we may be able to support you.

Our Vision Rehabilitation Specialists have knowledge, skills and experience in rehabilitation that can enable people to continue with many activities, both in their own homes and in their local communities. We can also enable people to learn new skills.

We can help by providing:

  • Information and advice around certification / registration
  • Specialist equipment to promote independence
  • Advice and training around daily living, such as
    • Safe pouring techniques,
    • Marking up equipment.
  • Advice and demonstrations on lighting, colour contrast and how to manage glare
  • Advice around orientation, suitable canes and deliver training in order to maximise safe independent mobility both indoors and out
  • Support with communication and low vision aids (handheld and electronic magnifiers),
