Nottingham City Council is consulting on future options for its Council Tax Support scheme which helps households on low incomes with their Council Tax bill.

Are you interested in helping us run local and national elections by working in a polling station?

We are looking for professional, customer focused individuals to help us deliver future elections.

To be eligible to work at election time you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over.
  • Be entitled to work in the UK and have all the relevant documentation should evidence be required.
  • Must not work on behalf of a candidate during an election campaign, nor be related to a prospective candidate.
  • Be willing to consent to working in excess of the hours indicated by the working time directive.

Jobs Available 

The polling station staff are responsible for the conduct of the ballot in each polling station. On election day polling station staff are required to work from 6.30am until after 10pm without leaving the polling station. The positions available in a polling station are either Presiding Officer or Poll Clerk

Presiding Officer

Responsible for the conduct of the ballot in their allocated polling station. They must have a good knowledge of the voting procedures in order to answer more complex queries from electors and be able to complete official paperwork and maintain order. They also ensure that voters are able to cast their vote in secret, free from influence and in a calm atmosphere. Please note that Presiding Officers require their own transport.

Poll Clerk

Assist the Presiding Officer in the conduct of the ballot in the polling stations. Ensure that all eligible voters are issued their ballot paper and are able to cast their vote in secret, free from influence and in a calm atmosphere.

Rates of Pay 

The current rates of pay for each role are as follows:

  • Presiding Officer: £323.42
  • Poll Clerk: £198.72

The Rates of Pay for this election have changed as it's a single election.
