The Council is facing a very difficult financial situation which means we need change the way we work to ensure we are using money wisely to provide local people with the right services.

Our aim is to be a well-run council which designs things with and around the customer, making the best use of our assets and using the latest technology to provide services in a modern, efficient and effective way.

As part of becoming a better council, we are talking to citizens and partner organisations about what’s important to you and what your priorities are for the city so we can be clear about the Council’s role in delivering these.

Our current Strategic Council Plan sets out ten important priorities for Nottingham aimed at tackling inequality, listening to residents, providing help where it is needed most, and working in partnership so that all local people have dignity, respect and opportunities in their lives.

Our current Strategic Council Plan priority outcomes are:

Child-Friendly Nottingham – e.g. prioritising protection of vulnerable children, early and effective support for families and improving educational attainment.

Living Well in Our Communities – e.g. working with partners on key health priorities such as eating and moving for good health and smoking and tobacco control.

Green, Clean and Connected Communities – e.g. keeping the city clean, improving green spaces and increasing recycling.

Better Housing – e.g. working with partners to create more affordable housing and tackling homelessness.

Safer Nottingham – e.g. working with the Police and partners to reduce violent crime, hate crime and make our streets safer for women.

Carbon Neutral City by 2028 – e.g. improving the city’s transport infrastructure, reducing air pollution and supporting households to access high quality insulation.

Keeping Nottingham Working – e.g. helping 3,000 people into work and targeting support to those most likely to experience barriers in accessing employment.

Keeping Nottingham Moving – e.g. enhancing the public transport network and fulfilling statutory responsibilities such as traffic management and parking regulation.

Improve the City Centre – e.g. using national funding to support improvements in the city centre, drive footfall, reduce vacancies and improve the public realm.

Serving People Well – e.g. optimising the use of every pound of public money to ensure the Council can continue to provide legally compliant services for local people.

The following questions will be discussed at the engagement events:

Looking at the current Strategic Council Plan priorities, which of these are most important to you and why?

What do you see as the council's role in delivering these priorities?  (e.g. Does it deliver services itself, or could they be delivered in a different way by others?)

Who else might have a role in delivering these priorities? (e.g. Other organisations, businesses, community groups, residents?)
