If you offer Massage or Special Treatments to members of the public, you will need a licence under the Nottinghamshire County Council Act 1985 from the Local Authority. This licence is renewable annually from the date of issue..

Licensable treatments include:

  •   Full body massage
  •   Part body massage
  •   Electric treatment
  •   Radiant heat, light or electric vapour treatment
  •   Sauna or other baths for therapeutic treatment
  •   UV tanning equipment including sunbeds and sun showers
  •   Laser and/or Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment using Class 3B and Class 4 Lasers

Apply for a Licence

 To apply for a licence, please complete the relevant application forms below:

A copy of the completed application must be sent to Nottinghamshire Police for comment.

In the case of Laser and IPL licensing, you will need to provide additional information including:

  • Treatment protocol
  • Local rules
  • Risk assessment and register of authorised users
  • Evidence of authorised user training including Core of Knowledge certificates
  • A plan of the premises
  • A copy of the public liability insurance

Licence Conditions

Once we have received both your application form and fee, an Environmental Health Officer will arrange to carry out an inspection of your premises to check compliance with the licence conditions.

The licence conditions are in four parts. The conditions applied to your licence will depend on the licensable treatments offered within the establishment.
