Name of Organisation: Chayah Development Project

Short Description of Organisation

Chayah Development Project delivers holistic, trauma-informed support from Edwards Lane Community Centre, addressing poverty, isolation, and exclusion. Working closely with young people, families, and the elderly, Chayah serves some of Nottingham’s most deprived communities.

Activities include distributing emergency food and culturally appropriate meals, hosting energy advice clinics, providing fuel vouchers, and delivering financial literacy workshops. Warm hub sessions offer safe spaces for connection, guidance, and essential resources. Chayah’s community-rooted approach ensures support is accessible and dignified, with strong collaboration across local partners and statutory services to sustain impact where it’s needed most.

Summary of planned Activity and events

Chayah Development Project will deliver a four-month winter support programme (Nov 2025–Feb 2026) at Edwards Lane Community Centre, targeting households impacted by the cost-of-living crisis. Activities include twice-monthly Energy Advice Clinics, monthly Financial Resilience Workshops, and weekly Warm Hub & Community Drop-In sessions. These will provide hot meals, warm clothing, fuel vouchers, and tailored guidance on budgeting, energy bills, and efficiency upgrades.

Outreach will focus on deprived areas such as Bestwood, Bulwell, Basford, and Radford, engaging older adults, single parents, ethnic minorities, and neurodiverse residents through trusted community channels and multilingual volunteers. Up to 250 households will benefit, with 75 receiving intensive one-to-one support aimed at improving EPC ratings and reducing energy costs.

The programme aligns with UKSPF Winter Support Grant objectives: Part 1 supports households with essentials and financial guidance; Part 2 promotes uptake of energy efficiency measures. Funding will cover two bulk orders of food and essentials, partial utility costs for the Warm Hub and staffing for a Warm Hub Coordinator. We will monitor this with attendance logs, referral records, and demographic mapping, with monthly reports submitted to Nottingham City Council. Feedback from service users will help us to provide continuous improvement and ensure measurable, meaningful impact.
