Name of Organisation: Mellish Sports Centre
Short Description of Organisation
Using the Winter Support Grant, Mellish Sports Centre will deliver targeted activities to support households affected by the cost-of-living crisis, food and fuel poverty, and social isolation. Based at our fully accessible, community-led venue in Bulwell, the programme will focus on low-income families and older residents most vulnerable during the winter months.
Warm Welcome & Coffee Morning: Monday - Friday 9am – 12pm from the 3rd Nov 2025 – 27th Feb 2026 we are offering hot drinks, breakfast bars, and healthy snacks in a friendly, heated space. Attendees can also access advice on benefits, budgeting, and energy saving, provided by local partners.
Health & Fitness for Older Adults: Free classes such as Zumba Gold, Yoga and mindfulness for new attendees, followed by coffee and social time, promoting gentle exercise, wellbeing, and connection for older residents.
Take-Home Support: Participants will receive one warm blanket and food parcels with healthy essentials such as tinned goods, pasta, rice, and fresh produce where possible.
Through these initiatives, we aim to support over 100 households, helping to reduce food insecurity, ease financial pressure, and combat loneliness. Mellish Sports Centre will provide a warm, safe, and inclusive environment where people can stay active, connected, and supported throughout the winter
Summary of planned Activity and events
We will be running a weekly ‘warm hub’ session through to March 2026 from the Neighbourhood Centre. This will be the fourth winter warm hub we have held, and we continue to build on the success of previous years. This funding will support the hub for the crucial months over the winter period. We will provide food and activities to engage with local people who will be able to meet and socialise in a warm safe space and get information on the wide range of other services available to them across the area, as well as, on our provision.
We invite other support services to come along, and our own advisers also attend, to tell attendees about welfare benefit entitlements and managing debt. Various activities, suggested by the attendees, are available to promote a safe friendly atmosphere.
We run an energy efficiency and debt service and have access to energy vouchers for those vulnerable clients that have no heating / lighting and are on a prepayment meter.
Energy usage will be the key theme running through each warm hub session. The warm hub is an ideal place to disseminate information with as many as 30 – 40 people attending each session.
Planned Dates:
- Monday - Fridays between the 3rd of November – 27th February.
