Types of Graves
Lawn Graves
The plot is covered in grass with the option of a headstone. These burials will take place within the lawned area of the cemetery both at Northern and Southern Cemetery. High Wood Cemetery does not have a specific lawned grave area but a lawned grave can be purchased. On a lawn grave, a headstone is permitted, but nothing can be placed on the lawned area of a grave.
Traditional Graves
These burials will take place within a certain area of Northern and Southern Cemeteries. High Wood Cemetery does not have a specific area for traditional graves, but a traditional grave can be purchased. On a traditional grave, a memorial in the form of a kerb set and headstone is permitted.
Types of Burial
These are the standard types of burials available.
Green Burial
These burials take place in the meadowland at High Wood Cemetery. This meadowland is cut twice a year. A biodegradable coffin must be used and no embalming of the body can take place. Memorials and headstones are not be permitted on the grave.
Woodland Burial
These burials take place in the areas where coppices or woodland areas are being created. As with Green burials, a biodegradable coffin must be used and no embalming of the body can take place. A tree will be planted next to the grave, but memorials and headstones are not permitted on the grave
Interment of Cremated remains
Cremated remains can be interned on a grave or in an underground niche. If a grave is to be used it can be a cremated remains grave, or the internment can take place in a grave already purchased and used for burials. A grave can hold approximately eight sets of cremated remains. An underground niche can be purchased and two sets of remains can be accommodated With the underground niche, a black granite plaque with the first inscription and vase is included in the initial price.
