Clifton Neighbourhood Board

The Clifton area of Nottingham was selected by the government in 2023 as one of the areas to receive almost £20 million worth of endowment style funding over ten years, from 2024 to 2034, to invest in local people’s priorities.

This was announced as part of the government’s Long Term Plan for Towns initiative.

A new and independent board, called the Clifton Town Board (now known as the Clifton Neighbourhood Board) was formed in April 2024  to oversee this investment and set strategic direction for the funding.

The board is made up of local community and business representatives, together with public sector organisations including Nottingham City Council, who are the accountable body for the funding. Local residents will be invited have their say on how the money should be spent and shape plans throughout the programme, and decisions for the strategy and direction of the funding need to show it’s based on what residents have asked for.

As part of the planning process for the funding, the Clifton Town Board ran a survey, along with a range of targeted engagement activities including a community event in order to understand where residents and groups across the area believe funding should be invested. There were some very clear responses: the majority suggested youth activities are needed, as well as an improved high street and market, better maintained and developed parks and open spaces, and protected and developed community facilities.

Whilst the programme was paused following the change of government in July 2024 the board continued to explore opportunities and options for achieving the residents’ priorities, and work on refining a draft vision and investment plan.

In October 2024, the new government confirmed that Clifton would receive the funding previously announced for this programme (up to £20m over ten years) under the Plan for Neighbourhoods programme.

The Board are now working on aligning the residents’ priorities with the refreshed guidance and range of interventions and will be inviting more feedback from residents before submitting plans. Details of engagement opportunities will be published here and on social media.

The funding covers all of the Clifton East ward, part of Clifton West ward and some of the Fairham development being built in Rushcliffe.

Boundary map can be seen here.

The Clifton Neighbourhood Board has been set up to oversee how and where the funding should be spent, in consultation with local residents.  In line with Government guidance Nottingham City Council acts as the accountable body for the funding based on the decisions the Neighbourhood Board make.

Information about any future public engagement activities will be provided on this web page. Alternatively, please contact Programme Manager via email: cliftonneighbourhoodboard@nottinghamcity.gov.uk
