If you know about a house or residential property that has been empty for more than six months, you can report it to us.
Long-term empty properties can affect local communities and reduce the availability of homes for people who need them. We work with property owners to encourage empty homes to be brought back into use wherever possible.
Before you report an empty house
Please only report a property if it appears to have been empty for six months or more.
Signs that a property may be empty include:
- boarded-up windows or doors
- overgrown gardens
- overflowing post or uncollected mail
- damaged fences or exterior maintenance issues
- no visible signs of occupation over a long period
Information you'll need to provide
When reporting an empty property, please tell us:
- the full address of the property
- any concerns you have about the property
- your contact detailsĀ
What happens next?
We will assess the information you provide and investigate where appropriate.
Due to data protection and confidentiality requirements, we may not be able to tell you about any action taken or provide updates on individual cases.
