King George V Playing Fields, Aspley Lane, Nottingham, NG8 5RX

Funded by Trees for Cities, Nottingham City is collaborating closely with Green Hustle as part of their initiative to plant 10,000 trees over two years, expanding our ever-growing population of native woodlands. This initiative offers long-term benefits for the community and nature by providing natural beauty, spaces for exploration and adventure for local children, creating habitats for wildlife, and helping to mitigate climate change.

King George V Park presents an ideal location for our first community woodland project of this kind in Nottingham. The park’s large open spaces will allow us to establish the woodland, creating a new nature area while retaining its other amenities, including the playing field, meadow, and play areas.

As shown in the plan (link below), the proposal makes use of existing planted trees, naturally regenerating saplings, and an expansion of the orchard. The plan also includes several clearings and walkways, with paths at least 5 metres wide, ensuring easy navigation for park users and dog walkers, and encouraging outdoor play and learning opportunities for both the local community and the adjoining primary school.

A central woodland glade within the plantation will provide a perfect space for picnics and community engagement sessions. This area will also be enhanced in the future with additional planting, such as spring bulbs and wildflowers.
