Who is Post 16?
Post 16 refers to anyone in care who is in school years 12 and 13 or the equivalent. This is mostly young people aged 17 and 18. This applies where you are in education, training or an apprenticeship. Or perhaps you are not currently attending education.
What the Virtual School can do for pupils Post 16 in care
The Virtual School has a designated Post 16 Education Support Officer who supports children in care (CIC) to reach their potential following Year 11, up until they turn 18. The Education Support Officer provides this support in different ways, such as – proposing strategies and interventions to assist progress, leading on projects that support Post 16 CIC, delivering training to further education providers/semi independent staff and helping source the most effective provision for Post 16 young people.
We also monitor your education plan to make sure people are doing what is best and your voice is being heard. You can learn more about this by reading about Personal Education Plans. Young people post 16 are also entitled to funding to support their education.
